AWS API Gateway

Joined AWS API Gateway as a founding member of the team, designing, developing, and maintaining key features for its launch in July 2015. The service went on to serve billions of requests a month across thousands of customers.

Shipped API Keys and Throttling (per-key usage limits) and Encryption Key Caching (runtime key caching to cut API latency). Later owned a complex migration of the service’s control plane onto EC2 with full CI — extensive refactoring, testing, and a careful rollout across all 14 AWS regions at the time, with zero disruption to API owners.

Also served as the team’s load-testing lead, tracking down performance bottlenecks and memory leaks (Jamm was the tool of choice for estimating runtime object sizes) to help the service sustain 100k+ requests per second under load.
